Fortunately, as its symptoms can make crops unfit for processing, we only ever see a few instances of Spraing every year. However, when it is an issue its effects on individual crops and hence individual businesses can be devastating.



When we do see crops with problems it is often in situations where the variety is sensitive or soil types are likely to contain populations of free living nematodes containing the virus.



Every year, instances of internal disorders, usually spraing symptoms, are recorded in areas or varieties where we haven�t seen problems in the past. This leads us to suspect that we don�t know as much about the distribution of free living nematodes or the presence of Spraing as we would like.



The BPC have funded a study which aims to answer questions about the distribution of Spraing to give us a clearer picture of its distribution.



It would be helpful if you could complete the questionnaire � whether you have ever had a Spraing problem or not � and return it to Finlay Dale at SCRI.
