Demo Crop Latest

The harvesting event, which is such an important part of the British Potato exhibition, will this year see 13ha of crop go for chipping and for flake production over the 2 days of the event.



The crop was planted between 9th and 15th April and has now received a couple of crop protection inputs.



There is a range of soil textures on the site with enough differences to cause a range of emergence dates � the light land areas generally being around 5 days ahead of the heavier parts.



We timed the weed control just as the forward areas were emerging. The photo shows the herbicide application being made by CS Arable Services. A three way tank mix of Centium, Linuron and Shark, supplied by Belchim Crop Protection, have given excellent contact control and, so far, good residual suppression. This application was made on 13th May.



With minimum temperatures rising to above 10oC and the crop developing quickly, it was decided to get some early blight cover on. At the rosette stage we applied fluazinam on 28th May and will be following this up within 10 days.



With hot, humid weather, blight control will be our priority during June. We�ll keep this page updated every week or so with developments and input decisions.
